In accordance with the decision of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, the President of the University No. (24) dated 22/6/1428 AH, corresponding to 7/7/2007, and the executive regulations of Law No. (10) of 1995, as amended by Law No. (34) of 2004 and Law No. (9) of 2007, regarding student rewards at Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training:
Two Kuwaiti students or those who are treated as Kuwaitis, as well as children of Kuwaiti women, are honored.
- The student's overall GPA must not be less than 3.5 out of a four-point scale. Preference is given to students with higher GPAs. If the GPA requirement is not met in any scientific department, an alternative student with the highest GPA in the college or department, not less than 3.0, is honored.
- The number of completed credit units must be at least 45.
- The total number of registered and completed credit units in the specialization for the two semesters of the year for which the honor is awarded must be 30 units in the same specialization.
- The student must be enrolled at the university and not be graduating at the end of the academic year for which the honor is given.
- In case of a tie in the overall GPA, preference is based on the equivalent number calculated according to the following formula:
- Equivalent number = (1 / Number of graduation units) × (Number of completed units - 45)
- If there is a tie in the equivalent number, students are ranked based on the following criteria:
- The student who has completed more semesters.
- The student who is more actively involved in university student activities.
- The student with a good reputation in the college.
- The younger student.
- A merit scholarship is awarded to two students from each department, program, or specialization, except for the following colleges: Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Allied Medical Sciences, and Law, where the top ten students from each college are selected.
- The merit scholarship is awarded for 12 months each academic year, starting from September and ending in late August of the following year.
- To encourage non-Kuwaiti outstanding students to continue their academic excellence, one student from each department, program, or specialization in the college is honored according to the above-mentioned conditions, in accordance with University Council Decision No. 2/2009, effective from the fiscal year 2009/2010.
